Culture
Georgian culture counts millenniums, as it was conceived in ancient times. Development of Georgian culture was substantially influenced by the country’s geopolitical location. Situated on the crossroad of big trade routes, on the verge of Europe and Asia, between the significant centers of West and East, Georgia had to struggle for its political independence all along its history. On the other hand, cultural relations of different countries had been intertwining inside Georgia. The country surrounded by West Asia and Mediterranean Sea, had close ties with Achaemenid, and then with Sassanid Iran, Hellenist East and Rome.
Georgian state Iberia was one of the first countries, officially proclaiming Christianity as a state religion. That vital circumstance defined the country’s orientation, its links with Byzantium and other Christian states. In the process of cultural relations, Georgian art was open to novelties, as well as contributing to common development itself.
Georgia is a diverse country with every region having particular cultural features, reflected in architectural and historic monuments, as well as in folk songs, dances and traditions that have been established for centuries. |
